These beautiful earrings are made from Operculum shells, a component of a very unique type of Sea Snail's shell. The operculum is located across the opening of the shell, so that when the snail retracts its body inside, the “trapdoor” closes as a protective barrier against predators. Which is why we believe it to be symbolic of protection and immunity.
Operculum shells are oval in shape and have a white, bone/ivory-like surface with an embedded dark spiral line.
These hook earrings are available in Sterling Silver, and are decorated with Operculum Shells found in the region of Coral Bay, Ningaloo Reef, Australia. They are delivered in our signature Ocean Alchemy pouch.
